The Fourth Trimester: What to Expect

The “fourth trimester” is roughly the first twelve weeks after birth, when your body, emotions, and daily rhythm shift deeply — and deserve the same care as pregnancy did.
Bleeding (lochia), mild afterpains, breast tenderness, and fatigue are common. Fragmented sleep is normal; prioritize hydration and simple meals when you can.
Emotional support matters as much as physical. Joy mixed with exhaustion or doubt is common. Talking with your postpartum doula, a parents’ group, or a mental health professional can be transformative.
Ask for help with household tasks and set clear visitor boundaries. Protecting your nest in the early days supports bonding and feeding.
If something feels wrong — fever, severe pain, frightening thoughts — seek medical care or call your emergency line. You are not overreacting.
At VidaCare, we believe supported postpartum is the foundation of lighter parenting — we’re here to walk with you.
